Sembradores de Vida is our church partner and is located in Zone 6 of Guatemala City, the capital city. Zone 6 is one of the largest zones in Guatemala City and is considered a red zone (drugs, gangs, violence, prostitution). It is one of the poorest areas in the city. Most women work in homes doing laundry or cleaning while most men are unemployed. If a man does have a job it is usually in construction. Life for young people and children is very difficult. They have to face the constant pressure of gangs and drugs. The dropout rate of students from school is very high as the average student will only make it to the 9th grade. This minimal education is enough to get a job making less than the minimum wage. The average household income for a family of 6 is $200 per month.
